Getting close
By ravsitar | May 14, 2007
Last Friday I picked up something I’ve been thinking about getting a while now: a set of close-up filters. It’s like havening a set of magnifying glasses that you can mount on the end of your lens. It allows you to focus on objects closer than normal. For example, my 18-70mm lens has a close focus distance of 18″ normally, with a couple of the close-up filters stacked on there I can focus on things 2″ away. And it makes a HUGE difference on my 70-300mm lens. Almost turns it into a microscope
Here are a few macro shots I took over the weekend.
This is an Engineering Scale showing the divisions used for 1″=60′. Shot with my 50mm lens at f/1.8.

Some Leftover Cookies shot with my 18-70mm lens and all three (+1,+2,+4) filters stacked on the front.

Same cookie shot with my 70-300mm lens and all three (+1,+2,+4) filters stacked on the front.

I’ll be playing around with these neat filters a bit more over the next week.
